Man, 20s, charged with public order offences in Dublin

Gardaí have arrested a man aged in his 20s in Dublin city this evening following reports of a person acting suspiciously in the area.

The man was arrested after he failed to engage with gardaí and has been charged with a number of public order offences.

He is being detained overnight and is due to appear in court tomorrow.

Gardaí said they were responding to reports following concerns about the alleged activities of a man in the Grand Canal Square area of the city.

Videos have since been posted online with unsubtantiated and unverified allegations being made against an individual who is also subsequently attacked.

Gardaí have not been able to verify the allegations and have not found anyone able to give direct first-hand testimony to substantiate them.

In a statement this evening, gardaí said they are continuing to carry out inquiries into the exact nature of the incident and to attempt to independently verify the concerns.

They have appealed to anyone with direct knowledge of any incident, who saw a man acting “in a concerning manner” or who has video footage to contact them at Pearse Street Garda Station.

They are also investigating the attack on an individual which was posted online.
