Jury in Clare murder trial to resume deliberations

The jury in the trial of a 34-year-old man accused of the murder of his 78-year-old uncle will resume deliberating on a verdict tomorrow.

Thomas Lorigan, of no fixed abode, has pleaded not guilty to murdering John O’Neill at St Brendan’s Road, Lisdoonvarna, Co Clare in January 2022.

They jury had been deliberating for five hours since yesterday.

John O’Neill was found dead at his home in Lisdoonvarna on 7 January 2022.

The Central Criminal Court heard that John O’Neill (above) suffered multiple injuries to his head and face

The Central Criminal Court heard he had been viciously beaten and suffered multiple injuries to his head and face.

The prosecution alleges he was killed by his nephew Thomas Lorigan who denies any involvement.
