Altering photos ‘not something we do here’

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if the White House had ever digitally altered photos.

Ms Jean-Pierre denied the White House had ever done so, and asked if she was being asked the question due to “what’s going on in the UK”.

Ms Jean-Pierre was referring to the controversy surrounding a photograph of Britain’s Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton and her three children, which was released on Sunday.

She issued an apology on social media on Monday for “any confusion” caused by the edited photograph which had been issued by her office Kensington Palace the previous day.

Several leading news organisations including Reuters withdrew the picture of the princess posing with her three children after post-publication analysis showed it did not meet their editorial standards.
