Woman, 20s, dies following crash in Co Louth



A woman has died following a crash in Co Louth.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after the woman, 20s, died after a van she was a passenger in crashed into a tree in Carnalogue near Louth village at around 1.50am.

A second passenger, a man in his 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene according to a garda spokesperson, who said a technical examination is due to take place.

The road has been closed and local diversions are in place.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact gardaí at Ardee station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Yesterday, a man in his 40s died in a single-car crash in Co Mayo.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle he was driving crashed on the N17 at Lisduff in Claremorris.

A total of 13 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.
