Wife of Irish citizen held in Iraq appeals for help

The wife of an Irish anti-corruption advocate, who is being detained in Iraq, has called on the Irish Government to do everything in its power to ensure he comes home to Ireland as soon as possible.

Yasser Eljuboori, who was born in Iraq, has been denied permission to leave Iraq and return to his family in Ireland, his wife Laura Wickham has said.

Mr Eljuboori had been detained on Monday at Baghdad airport while attempting to return to Ireland.

He was in Iraq to see his mother, who is unwell.

Mr Eljuboori regularly highlights corruption issues in Iraq on his X account, where he has almost 75,000 followers.

He lives in Balgriffin in Dublin with his wife and their three young children.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it does not comment on the details of individual cases, but confirmed that it was aware of the case and providing consular assistance.
