The singer and bassist, Laura Lynch of the Chicks, formerly the Dixie Chicks, has died following a two-vehicle collision in the US state of Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the 65-year-old was killed in the crash which happened outside of El Paso.
Authorities said the incident occurred after a car traveling in the opposite direction attempted to pass a vehicle, before crashing into the musician’s car.
Officials said Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the other car was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Lynch was one of the founding members of the group in 1989, featuring on their first three albums, before departing the group in 1995.
In a statement on Instagram, the Chicks band said they were shocked and saddened by the news, adding that she “was instrumental in the early success of the band”.
