Teenager dies after being struck by car on N17 in Co Mayo

A 17-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car on the N17 in Co Mayo last night.

The teenager was a pedestrian on a stretch of road adjacent to where three members of a family – Úna Bowden and her two daughters, Ciara and Saorise – died last Tuesday.

The incident happened at around 9.20pm and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

No other injuries were reported.

The road in the townland of Barnacarroll, about eight kms north of Claremorris, has been closed off for a forensic examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and anyone with camera footage – travelling on the N17 between Claremorris and Knock yesterday evening between 8.45pm and 9.30pm – is asked to share it with gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
