Taosieach compliant with donation rules

The Taoiseach is compliant with the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) rules on political donations, a spokesperson for Leo Varadkar has said.

The Ditch website reported that the Taoiseach had to file three statutory declarations of his political donations last year following queries from SIPO.

The first declaration was made in January 2023, but was updated in August and again in November to take account of donations raised at fundraising events.

These donations were from PR firm Edelman and Dr Ray Power, who is a co-founder of the medical practice network Centric Health.

The Taoiseach’s spokesperson said Mr Varadkar does not have to make a further declaration and he has been told by SIPO that there are no outstanding queries from them.

Under the law donations of more than €600 must be declared to SIPO.
