Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said there now is an urgent need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza as well as the unconditional release of all hostages, and safe, unhindered humanitarian access into the enclave.
At the start of the fourth month of the conflict Mr Martin called on all parties in the region to execrcise restraint and avoid an escalation, which he said would have devastating coinsequences for the region and the world.
The Tánaiste said that long-term peace in the region can only be achieved through a commitment to a two-state solution.
He said the recent comments by Israeli government ministers calling for the resettlement of Palestinians outside of Gaza are utterly unacceptable and inflammatory.
He added that; “Gaza is Palestinian land and is an integral part of a future state of Palestine.”
