Shop that sold record-breaking lotto ticket strikes again

A shop that sold Saturday’s winning lotto jackpot ticket also sold Dolores McNamara’s record-breaking EuroMillions ticket worth €115m in 2005.

The National Lottery revealed that G O Stores in Garryowen, Limerick, also sold this weekend’s winning ticket worth €8,970,934.

The city shop sold the ticket for one of the largest wins in National Lottery history when Dolores McNamara became the first EuroMillions jackpot winner in Ireland claiming over €115 million in July 2005 – the biggest lottery win in Europe at the time.

The Limerick woman learned she had become one of the richest people in Ireland while a customer at The Track bar in Garryowen.

The news that she had scooped the jackpot was announced to the rest of the pub by one of her friends.

At the time, the 45-year-old Limerick woman said she needed space and time for the implications of the win to sink in.

While she agreed to have her photo taken once she had collected her cheque, she left it to her solicitor, David Sweeney of Sweeney McGann Solicitors, to issue a statement on her behalf.

“It is her sincere desire that she and her family will return to normality as soon as possible,” Mr Sweeney said at the time.

“She is absolutely determined that her feet and the feet of her family will remain firmly on the ground.”
