Road users advised to use caution as ice warning in place

Road users are being advised to be careful as surfaces continue to be hazardous with a Status Yellow ice warning in place for the country until 9am.

Yesterday, Met Éireann has said it was “not surprised” snow fell across the country given forecasts for a mix of rain and sleet in recent days but acknowledged warnings were issued “at very short notice”, with Status Orange warnings warranted in some areas.

Heavy snow hit several counties yesterday morning leading to widespread travel disruption and some school closures.

Emergency arrangements were made to provide temporary shelter over the weekend for rough sleepers, including those seeking international protection.

The cold snap resulted in electricty outages to a few thousand customers but the vast majority have been reconnected.

Postal deliveries were disrupted in counties Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan and Westmeath and areas of south Dublin.

An Post said that it will make every effort to deliver letters and parcels to these areas today.
