President Michael D Higgins will remain in hospital until Thursday, Áras an Uachtaráin has confirmed.
He was admitted to St James’ Hospital in Dublin last Thursday.
President Higgins underwent medical tests which showed that he experienced a mild transient weakness from which he is expected to make a full recovery, a statement said.
“Following consultation with his medical team, President Higgins has agreed with their recommendation that he remain in hospital for an extra few days in order that they can monitor his blood pressure. He will return to Áras an Uachtaráin on Thursday,” the statement added.
