Plane on fire at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

A Japan Airlines aircraft with passengers still on board was on fire on a runway at Tokyo’s Haneda airport after a possible collision with a Coast Guard aircraft, Nippon TV reported.

Live footage on public broadcaster NHK showed flames coming out of the windows of the aircraft.

The images on NHK showed the plane moving briskly along the runway before an explosion of orange flames burst from beneath it.

A spokesperson at Japan Airlines said the aircraft, originating from Shin-Chitose airport in Hokkaido, was carrying around 400 passengers.

NHK, citing Japan Airlines said, all the passengers had been evacuated.

The television footage showed flames coming out windows and the plane’s nose on the ground as rescue workers sprayed it.

There was also burning debris on the runway.

An airport spokesman said all runways are closed.
