Labour to call for a ‘Yes’ vote in March referendums

The Labour Party is to call for a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendums on family and care which will be put to the people on 8 March.

The Labour Party Executive Board backed the recommendation from leader Ivana Bacik tonight.

In a statement, deputy Bacik said the proposed Constitutional changes are “long overdue and worthy of support”, even if the party’s amendments were not accepted by the Government.

The Dublin Bay South TD said the Constitution must be updated to reflect the changes in Irish society, even though the Government failed to adopt the wording proposed by the Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality.
