Pair appear in court over Dublin firearms seizure

A man and a woman have appeared in court charged with possession of firearms in Dublin over the weekend.

A 35-year-old woman has been charged with five firearms offences, including possession of a shotgun and a sub-machine gun in Dublin.

Sarah Jane Byrne from Drimnagh has also been charged with possession of a pistol and ammunition.

She appeared before Blanchardstown District Court along with her co-accused Jamie Moss, who has an address in Ballyfermot.

Mr Moss, 21, is charged with two offences including possession of a pistol and one round of ammunition.

Detective Garda Sean Kelly gave evidence of arresting Mr Moss after stopping the car he was driving on the Old Navan Road in Blanchardstown last Friday.

Detective Garda Kelly said there was a loaded 9mm pistol wrapped in cling film in a plastic bag in the car.

He told forensic analysis is being carried out on the gun.

Detective Garda Mark Ferris gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Ms Byrne.

He said she made no reply when the five charges were put to her at Blanchardstown Garda station yesterday afternoon.

The court heard how she was arrested by gardaí who stopped a car on the Old Navan road and following a subsequent search of an address a sub-machine gun, a sawn-off shotgun and 27 rounds of ammunition were found hidden under the stairs of a house.

There were objections to bail for both the accused but Judge David McHugh grant bail on strict conditions.

The conditions include Mr Moss and Ms Byrne signing on daily at a garda station, surrendering their passports and staying out of Dublin 15.

The judge ruled that their exact addresses cannot be made public given the serious nature of the offences.

Both accused will appear in court again at a later date.
