Noah, Jack, Holly and Robyn top baby names for December



Noah, Jack, Holly and Robyn were among the most popular baby names in December last year, according to the Central Statistics Office.

There were 65 babies born on Christmas Day in 2022 – 34 boys and 31 girls – compared to 89 babies born on 25 December 2021.

The top five boys names chosen in December 2022 were Noah (48), Jack (43), Rían (32), Oisín (30) and James (28).

For girls, Holly topped with list at 45, followed by Robyn (33), Grace and Fiadh (both 27), Sadie (22) and joint fifth were Mia, Lily, Hannah and Sophia (21).

CSO Statistician for Vital Statistics Seán O’Connor said there is a clear Christmas influence in the choice for baby girls born in December.

Throughout the whole of 2022, there were 124 girls named Holly, which ranked 43rd in terms of popularity, but was the top name for girls born in December.

Overall, the most popular girls’ name in 2022 was Emily, while Jack topped the chart for boys’ names.
