Ní Riain clinches gold in Madeira to add to medal haul

Róisín Ní Riain enjoyed more medal glory at the 2024 Para Swimming European Open Championships after clinching gold in the SB13 100m breaststroke final on Monday.

The Limerick swimmer had already bagged a silver in the S13 Butterfly final on Sunday at the championships which are being held in Madeira, Portugal and as the only Irish swimmer in action the following day, she went one better in the breaststroke, finishing first in a personal best time of 1:18.00.

“That was a pretty good swim, happy with the time and a great race,” said Ní Riain.

“I always think the 100 breaststroke is a fun one for me just to get out and race. I love the event so I’m very pleased with that.”

Nicole Turner and Barry McClements will be in the pool on Tuesday, while Dearbhaile Brady will tackle the 200 individual medley and Deaten Registe will make his European Championships debut in the 100m breaststroke later in the evening.
