Weather warnings are in place for much of the country, with Met Éireann forecasting widespread rain, turning to sleet and snow in parts of the midlands, west and north and on high ground.
A Status Yellow snow-ice warning is currently in operation in Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
It will remain in place until 8pm this evening, during which hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and ice on untreated surfaces are expected, Met Éireann said.
Clare, Tipperary, Galway, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow are also currently under a separate Status Yellow snow-ice warning, which due to expire at 1pm.
The forecaster warns of sleet and snow for a time leading to some accumulations, which are likely to be most significant on higher ground.
Road users are being advised to exercise caution, due to poor visibility and ice on untreated roads.
A Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow is in effect until 5am tomorrow.
Rain and sleet coupled with blustery easterly winds are expected, according to Met Éireann.
It is also warning of possible localised flooding.
In Northern Ireland, the UK Met Office has issued a Yellow snow and ice warning for Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone.
This is to remain in place until 6am tomorrow.
The forecaster said a band of rain, sleet and snow will bring some travel disruption for parts of Northern Ireland through today and into tomorrow.
