Man who intervened during Parnell St attack to run for FF

A Deliveroo driver who intervened during an attack on Parnell Street last November will contest the upcoming local elections for Fianna Fáil, the party has confirmed.

Caio Benicio used his helmet to hit the man who had attacked a woman and three children in Dublin city.

Mr Benicio, who is originally from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, will be a candidate in the Dublin North Inner City Local Electoral Area.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Fianna Fáil said: “Caio wanted to play a greater role in his community and has decided politics is a way of doing that.

“We are very pleased he has chosen to run for Fianna Fáil and we believe he will make a fine candidate for the North Inner City.”

He will run alongside Anne-Marie Connolly and Isabel Oliveira in the constituency.
