Man remanded over alleged abusive behaviour on flight

A passenger on an Aer Lingus flight has been remanded in custody with consent to bail for allegedly behaving in an “extremely threatening” manner on a flight from France to Dublin last night.

59-year-old Darren Davison, from Ivy Bank Park, Donaghmore, Dungannon in Co Tyrone, was arrested after he landed at Dublin Airport and charged under the Air Navigation and Transport Act.

He was brought before Dublin District Court today accused of being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour during the flight.

The court was told he punched windows and seats on the plane for just over an hour and a half during the flight from Lyon.

Sergeant Derek Spain said the investigating garda was “not very successful in obtaining any information” from Mr Davison, “other than his name or identity”.

He originally told the court he was representing himself but subsequently agreed to the court providing him with a solicitor.

Gardaí objected to bail but Judge Michael Ramsey granted Mr Davison bail on his own bond of €200.

His solicitor Daniel Hanahoe said he had €40 on him, but that he would sign on at a garda station in Co Monaghan, about 40 minutes from his home in Northern Ireland.

Judge Ramsey remanded Mr Davison in custody pending lodgement of the bail money to appear again at Cloverhill District Court tomorrow.
