Man remains in custody in Kerry death investigation

A man in his 60s is still being questioned by gardaí investigating the murder of 84-year-old Paddy O’Mahony at his home near Castlemaine in Co Kerry.

He was arrested just before midday yesterday on suspicion of murder involving the use of a firearm.

He is being held at a garda station in Co Kerry, under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, and can be held for up to seven days.

Gardaí were called to Mr O’Mahony’s home on Sunday after the alarm was raised.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The post-mortem examination on Mr O’Mahony’s body was completed at University Hospital Kerry yesterday by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster.

Gardaí say the findings are not being released for operational reasons.
