Man held after apparent attempt to abduct child in Dublin

Gardaí have arrested a man after an apparent attempt to abduct a 2-year-old child in Dublin city this afternoon.

The incident happened outside the child’s home just after 1pm on Sheriff Street.

The child’s mother went back into the house to get something but left the door open and noticed a man outside.

He appeared to be taking the toddler from the buggy

A person nearby also shouted at the man and the mother confronted him.

Local people intervened when the man tried to leave the scene and restrained him until the gardaí arrived shortly after.

A man in his 20s was arrested and detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí say they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the incident, including if there are mental health issues involved.
