Man further remanded in custody over Co Tipperary death



A 27-year-old man has been further remanded in custody on a charge of assaulting a man whose body was found at his rented home on the Tipperary/Limerick border last week.

Tomasz Rozpeda, a Polish national, is charged with assault causing harm to 32-year-old Maciej Nowak at Ballycrana, Kilross, Co Tipperary, between 26 and 27 December last.

The body of Mr Nowak, also a Polish national, was found at the house he was renting with a number of others outside the village of Kilross in west Co Tipperary.

It is understood that Mr Nowak suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Rozpeda, who is of no fixed address, was charged on Saturday with assault causing harm to Mr Nowak.

He made his second appearance before the district court today in Nenagh.

Garda Sergeant Cathal Godfrey asked the court to further remand Mr Rozpeda in custody for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on 24 January.

He also said there was a possibility of other charges being brought against Mr Rozpeda.

Solicitor Vincent McCormack confirmed that no bail application was being made.

Judge Philip O’Leary remanded Mr Rozpeda in custody to 24 January, when he will again be brought before Nenagh District Court.
