Man arrested in Cork over the murder of Ian Baitson



A man has been arrested by gardaí in Cobh, Co Cork, investigating the death of 33-year old chef, Ian Baitson.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He’s being detained at a garda station in Co Cork and can be held for up to 24 hours, excluding rest periods.

Ian Baitson, a father-of-two, died at Cork University Hospital on Tuesday after he was attacked in the forecourt of a supermarket in Cobh last Friday night.

Mr Baitson was attacked in the Eurospar carpark on the Newtown Road just before 9pm.

He received a leg wound and lost a significant amount of blood in the attack.

On Tuesday afternoon, gardaí received preliminary results from a post mortem examination on his body, after which they announced they were treating his death as murder.

They are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Gardaí also want to hear from anyone who may have camera footage from the Newtown Road area between 8.45pm and 9.15pm last Friday.
