Man arrested after car hijacked in Dublin

A man has been arrested after a car was hijacked on on the R136 at Grange Castle Road in Clondalkin, Dublin last night.

Gardaí say they received reports of a man attempting to hijack a car unsuccessfully, shortly after 9pm.

He subsequently approached a second car, removed the owner from the car, and drove away from the scene.

The car was intercepted on the Katherine Tynan Road in Tallaght a short time later following a managed containment operation involving local Garda units attached to the Clondalkin District and Armed Support Unit .

A man in his 30s was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in west Dublin.

Gardaí appeal to anyone who was in the Grange Castle Road area of Clondalkin at around 9pm, and who may have witnessed these incidents to come forward.

They are also appealing for those with camera footage, including dash cam footage, from the location at the time to contact them.
