‘I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland’

Killers of The Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone has said she has always been inspired by Irish culture and that it was nice to be in Dublin for “the last hooray” for the Oscar-nominated movie.

The actress is in town to attend the Irish Film and Television Awards, which is currently taking place at the Royal Convention Centre in Dublin where she is nominated for Best International Actress.

Gladstone was also nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in Martin Scorsese’s historical drama about a series of mysterious murders of the Osage people in 1920s Oklahoma.

Speaking to RTÉ on the IFTA red carpet, she said, “I’ve wanted to come to Ireland for twenty years now.

“But life has gotten in the way every single time. I’ve really been inspired forever, particularly here down south, about how you guys are so committed to bringing arts and culture preservation. It’s been a big inspiration, particularly for language preservation in the States.

“I’ve kept an eye on what’s going on here and it’s really an honour and, when I was invited, I just jumped at the chance to be here.”

Despite critical acclaim, Killers of The Flowers Moon failed to win any of the ten Oscars for which it was nominated but it’s still been a whirlwind year for the actress.

“It has so it’s nice to come back in and do the last hooray for Killers of The Flower Moon and there’s perfect weather here, which I hear is unprecedented.

Asked what her plans were for the rest of her trip to Dublin, she said, “I plan to go out to the coast tomorrow and see the sea!”
