Irish teen says performing on Hootenanny was ‘amazing’

A 17-year-old girl from Co Donegal who received a standing ovation at Jools Holland’s Hootenanny has said performing on the iconic show was a “really amazing experience”.

Muireann Bradley from Ballybofey delivered a pitch-perfect rendition of Candyman by Rev. Gary Davis on the annual New Year’s Eve programme on BBC2.

In what was her first ever performance on television, the blues singer and guitarist later took to the stage with music legend Rod Stewart and other stars for the show’s finale.

Stewart offered the teenager his microphone during the performance of Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think).

Muireann said it was amazing to meet legends of the music industry at the show.

She told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland: “It was a really amazing experience, everyone there was just so nice and it was really amazing how well put together the whole team was.

“The whole show was amazing and it was amazing to meet all those legends.”

The teenage singer recently released her debut album

She added that her performance on the programme was arranged between her record company and Jools’ production team.

Muireann, who recently released her debut album ‘I Kept These Old Blues’, described her musical style as “folk blues” and said she grew up listening to the genre thanks to her dad.

She said: “I’d describe it as folk blues music, I got into it from my dad, he’s really obsessed with all of that kind of music and I grew up listening to it. He taught me.

“I really loved the music and how complex it is and I just love it.”

As for her future plans, the singer said she will be focusing on her music and is excited to see where her career takes her.

She said: “I’m just seeing where I’m going with it and how it goes next year.

“I’ve got a few festivals over summer but I’m loving the whole thing, performing and I’ve only started off doing it.”
