Irish-language short film flying the flag in California

The makers of an Irish-language short film have said they are “absolutely thrilled” to be representing Ireland in California this weekend.

Scríofa sna Réaltaí (Written in the Stars) is screening at the 16th annual Film Fest Petaluma in California.

Directed by IFTA winner Vincent Gallagher and produced by Sin É Films, Scríofa sna Réaltaí was chosen from over a thousand submissions to be part of the festival, which is showcasing short films from 14 countries.

It was filmed in Conamara, Co Galway and stars Lochlann Ó Mearáin, Tara Breathnach, Ruarc Ó Confhaola, and Grace Ridge. Scríofa sna Réaltaí was written by Seán Ó Caollaí with Tomás Mac Donnacha serving as Director of Photography.

The film was commissioned by TG4 as part of the Eurovision Children’s Drama Series initiative from the European Broadcasting Union. It will screen on TG4 in the near future.

The “heartfelt film follows the inspiring journey of Seán, a nine-year-old neurodivergent boy, who dreams of acting despite the challenges he faces”.

“With unwavering determination and the support of his family, Seán decides to audition for his school play in this uplifting tale about defying the odds and overcoming one’s limitations,” according to TG4.

“We are absolutely thrilled to represent Ireland at Film Fest Petaluma and to share Scríofa sna Réaltaí with audiences alongside films from 14 countries in total,” said Sinéad Ní Loideáin, the film’s producer from Sin É Films.

Máire Uí Choisdealbha, Commissioning Editor at TG4, added: “We wish Scríofa sna Réaltaí every success on its road through the film festivals. We eagerly anticipate broadcasting this inspiring film on TG4 soon.”
