Investigation after man’s body found in Dublin

An investigation is under way into the death of a man following a suspected assault at his home in Dublin.
Gardaí were called to a flat in a house near Herberton Park on Tuesday afternoon, where the body of the man in his 60s was discovered.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He appears to have sustained a number of injuries and may have died violently.
The scene has been preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau has been carrying out a forensic examination.

The State Pathologist’s Office has been informed and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out.
Gardaí have begun a criminal investigation, and all the resources of a murder investigation are being deployed.
A Senior Investigation Officer and a Garda Liaison Officer have been appointed.
An incident room has been established at Kilmainham Garda Station and gardaí say they are following a number of lines of inquiry, including the possibility that the man was the victim of an assault.
