Govt approves participation in Ukraine Assistance Fund

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has secured Government approval for Ireland’s part in a Ukraine Assistance Fund under the European Peace Facility, which was agreed by the EU Foreign Affairs Council in March.

The EU agreement will see an extra €5 billion funding for Ukraine, and Ireland’s contribution is based on Gross National Income, which works out at just over €128m.

This fund will provide predictable, sustainable support to Ukraine as it comes under severe pressure from Russian offensives on the ground, the Cabinet was told.

This would bring Ireland’s total commitments to the European Peace Facility, which was set up in 2020, to approximately €400.6m up to 2027.

Ireland’s commitments to the European Peace Facility remain exclusively for non-lethal military support.
