Garda Band ‘unable to partake’ in St Patrick’s Day parade

The Garda Band will not take part in the national St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin this year due to a “reduced number” of members, An Garda Síochána has confirmed.

The band “is unfortunately unable to partake” in the parade in 2024, gardaí said in a statement to RTÉ’s Liveline.

The Garda Band has a long association with the national St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin and is currently made up of 22 garda members across all ranks.

An Garda Síochána said it is “fully committed” to the band and that it “has made application to have the numbers increased”.

Instead of participating in the national parade, “a number of members” of the Garda Band will be attending a St Patrick’s Day event in Europe, the statement added.

Gardaí will still be represented in the national parade by a marching contingent from the Garda College, the Garda Mounted Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
