‘Devastation’ as 18-month-old road victim named locally

The 18-month-old boy who died tragically following a road traffic incident at a traveller accommodation site outside Ennis earlier today has been named locally as Hunter Molloy.

He was the youngest sibling in a family of three with two older sisters. His Mother is due to give birth to a fourth sibling in a couple of months.

The little boy was hit by a car in the permanent traveller accommodation site occupied by his family and other relatives.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the site at around lunchtime yesterday after a call that the child had been struck by a car in the site.

He was rushed to University hospital Limerick with critical injuries, but he was pronounced dead a short time after being brought there.

Prayers were said at the site tonight lead by Ennis Parish Priest Fr. Tom Ryan, who knew the family well.
He had married the little boys’ parents Peter and Alisha, and christened their children.

Fr. Tom knew Alisha from Shannon where he was a parish priest for some years, and Dad Peter is originally from Limerick.

The gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer to support the family with the difficult days ahead as they deal with the death of their young boy, as they also try and deal with the investigation into his tragic death.
