A 36-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a sword attack in London earlier this week in which a 14-year-old boy died and four people were injured.
Marcus Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national living in Newham, east London, is charged with murdering Daniel Anjorin and seriously injuring two police officers.
He is accused of attacking the teenager as he walked to school in Hainault on Tuesday,
The two officers required surgery and remain in hospital.
Mr Monzo appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Chief Magistrate Paul Goldpsring remanded him in custody to appear at London’s Old Bailey court on Tuesday if a hearing is not available tomorrow.
The incident began at around 7am on Tuesday when the accused is alleged to have crashed a van into the fence of a house, hitting a 33-year-old man before stabbing him in the neck.
He is then alleged to have attacked a 35-year-old man inside a nearby property, causing injuries to his arm, before Daniel Anjorin was killed.
Police arrived at the scene 12 minutes after the first emergency call and attempted to neutralise the suspect with incapacitant spray and a Taser gun.
The man fled but officers again used a Taser to overpower him, detaining him 22 minutes after the initial call.
Police said the attack was not terrorist-related.
