Coldest June since 2015 – Met Éireann


Last month was cool and dry with temperatures and rainfall below average, according to Met Éireann.

Overall, the average temperature for June was 13.18C, making it the coldest since June 2015.

The warmest June on record occurred last year when the average temperature was 16.22C.

The coldest was June 1972, with an average temperature of 11.08C.

Monthly rainfall totals were below the long-term average in all areas of the country.

It was wettest in the northwest with 67.7mm recorded at Finner, Co Donegal.

At Cork Airport, the monthly rainfall total was 35.1mm – its driest June since 2018.

The number of wet days ranged from five at Oak Park, Co Carlow to 16 at Newport, Co Mayo and Markree, Co Sligo.

The Climate Statement for June also shows that it was coolest in the northwet and sunniest in the southeast and southwest.

The highest number of daily sunshine hours – 15.9 – was recorded at Gurteen, Co Tipperary on Wednesday 19 June.
