Bank of Ireland mobile banking hit by outage

Bank of Ireland has said its mobile banking services are currently not available.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience to our customers,” the bank said in a statement.

“We are working on this as a priority,” it added.

The bank has not said what caused the outage and it is not the first technical glitch to hit the company in recent times.

In August 2023, Bank of Ireland suffered a major outage which led to significant disruption for customers and chaotic queues at some ATMs.

The bank apologised for the technical problems, which led to some customers being able to withdraw more money than they had in their accounts.

In March last year, Bank of Ireland was fined €750,000 by the Data Protection Commission (DPC) following an investigation into ten data breaches involving the bank’s Banking 365 system.

In April 2022, Bank of Ireland was fined €463,000 for data breaches affecting more than 50,000 customers.

In December 2021, the bank was fined €24.5m by the Central Bank for regulatory breaches related to its IT systems and related internal controls.
