Young carer hopes for new home in 2024

The recent recipient of the Leinster Young Carer of the Year and his mother are facing homelessness.

Conor Byrne, 20, from Co Wicklow, has cared for his mother Ann since she had a stroke when he was eight years old.

While studying for a degree in mechanical engineering at TU Dublin, Conor also handles household responsibilities, manages finances and oversees all healthcare needs for his mother.

He was one of five young carers who were celebrated at the Netwatch Young Carer of the Year Awards earlier this year.

The annual awards honour young people who provide significant support to their families facing diverse challenges.

Conor and his mother are facing eviction from their rental property where they have lived for the past 16 years.

Watch our video to hear Conor speak about his hopes – and fears – for 2024.
