Wind and rain warnings issued for eight counties

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind and rain warning for eight counties.

The warning for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo, and Wexford comes into effect at 2am on Saturday and is due to remain in place until 11pm Saturday night.

The forecaster says “southwest winds will be strong and gusty at times coupled with heavy rain and thundery showers”.

It says this could lead to flooding, wave overtopping and loose debris, which may result in difficult travelling conditions.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow wind and snow-ice warning has been issued for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo between 5am and 10am on Saturday.

Rain is forecast to turn to sleet and snow in places, especially over high ground.

Elsewhere, a Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick between 11pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.

Winds are due to be strong and gusty at times resulting in wave overtopping and difficult conditions on the roads.

In Northern Ireland, the UK Met Office has also issued a Yellow rain warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

Heavy rain is expected between 4am and 11am on Saturday which may lead to some disruption to transport.
