Wife of Thomas Dooley gives evidence at murder trial

The wife of 42-year-old father of seven Thomas Dooley has been giving evidence for a third day in the trial of six people charged with his murder.

Siobhan Dooley is being cross-examined at the Central Criminal Court by lawyers for the six accused.

They include Mr Dooley’s brother and three of his first cousins.

Mr Dooley died when he was attacked as he attended a funeral in Tralee, Co Kerry on 5 October, 2022, and suffered what the prosecution described as savage injuries, inflicted by a group acting with focused and murderous ferocity.

Before the court are: 36-year-old Patrick Dooley of 33 Arbutus Grove, Killarney, Co Kerry, a brother of the deceased; 43-year-old Thomas Dooley senior and 21-year-old Thomas Dooley Junior, both of Bay 10, Halting Site, Carrigrohane Road, Cork; 29-year-old Michael Dooley of Bay 11, Halting Site, Carrigrohane Road, Cork; and 42-year-old Daniel Dooley, of An Caraigín, Connolly Park, Tralee, County Kerry.

The sixth person is a teenager.

All six have pleaded not guilty.

Thomas Dooley junior has also pleaded not guilty to causing serious harm to Siobhán Dooley in the same incident.

Today, lawyers for some of the accused put it to Siobhán Dooley that she was taking a “spray paint” approach to all of them.

Senior Counsel Ray Boland, for Michael Dooley, said she was effectively saying she was not in a position to identify everyone present, and that she accepted that she identified one man – who is not charged with any offence – as being involved, even though it was certain that he was not there.

Siobhán Dooley said she misidentified this person because he looked like one of the accused.

Mr Boland put it to Siobhán Dooley that she had a hatred of the Dooleys from the Carrigrohane Road in Cork, arising out of what had happened, and that she wanted to get revenge on all of the Dooleys.

Siobhán Dooley said this was not true.

The trial continues.
