Supermarkets and shop owners have been busy preparing for the launch of the new Deposit Return Scheme on 1 February.
Now consumers are being encouraged to get ready too.
The new scheme will see consumers pay a refundable deposit on drinks in plastic bottles and cans, which they will get back when they return their drinks containers to participating shops and supermarkets.
Drinks containers with the Re-Turn logo start appearing in shops from 1 February and only cans and plastic bottles featuring that logo will be accepted into reverse vending machines at supermarkets and shops.
It is hoped that the scheme will help Ireland to reach its recycling goals as part of the EU single-use plastic directive.
