Two men remain in custody over Galway hotel fire

Gardaí are continuing to question two men in connection with an arson attack on a Galway hotel late last year.

The Ross Lake House Hotel was extensively damaged in the mid-December fire.

It had been earmarked to serve as an accommodation centre for asylum seekers.

The men – one in his 40s, the other in his 50s – were arrested yesterday morning.

They are being questioned about alleged criminal damage and can be detained for a total of 24 hours, excluding rest periods.

Two women who were also arrested yesterday in connection with the same investigation have been released without charge.

They were held under the Offences Against the State Act and gardaí are preparing files for the Director of Public Prosecutions, following their release.
