Taoiseach Simon Harris will be among dozens of world leaders attending a summit on peace in Ukraine this weekend.
Leaders and representatives from almost 90 countries are due to attend the two-day event taking place in Switzerland.
The aim of the summit is to develop a path towards peace in Ukraine.
However, before travelling to Switzerland, Mr Harris warned that Russia must be held accountable for its actions in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend along with the leaders of France, the UK, Germany, Italy and many other countries.
US Vice President Kamala Harris will also be in attendance.
India is also sending a delegation, however, one notable absentee will be China, a major power and key consumer of Russian oil.
Russia has not been invited to the summit. Nevertheless, the event is seen as an opportunity to develop a path towards peace.
Discussions are due to centre on the need to uphold international law as well as the need to address global concerns such as nuclear safety, food security and other humanitarian issues.
Mr Harris will also attend a break-out session on the human dimension of the conflict, including ways to secure the return of unlawfully displaced Ukrainian children.
Speaking ahead of travelling to the event Mr Harris also said that he would re-iterate to President Zelensky Ireland’s “steadfast support” for Ukraine.
He said: “It is important that the global community agree on clear principles that must underpin any future peace process.
“For Ireland, this must include the principles of international law, especially those set out in the UN Charter, and must vindicate Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.”
