Basking sharks have been spotted swimming metres away from the shore in Co Mayo.
The footage was captured by Shane Clarke near the village of Kilcummin last weekend.
The majestic creatures, which are harmless to humans, can grow up to 11 metres in length.
In Mr Clarke’s, footage they can be seen opening their large mouths as they feed on plankton.
Basking sharks were hunted throughout much of the last century in the northeast Atlantic.
They are classed as globally endangered, although sightings have increased in the waters off Ireland in recent years as populations continue to recover.
