An eight-year-old boy who sang Ireland’s Call at the Aviva Stadium ahead of Ireland’s Guinness Six Nations win over Italy has said he loved the experience.
Stevie Mulrooney from Kilkenny sprang to prominence singing the rugby anthem on the Late Late Toy Show, before being invited to perform at Ireland’s opening home match of the championship by flanker Josh van der Flier.
He had to wait for his moment in the spotlight as Jennifer Dalton performed the Italian anthem and Amhran na bhFiann before stealing the show to catch the eye of Ireland boss Farrell and thousands of television viewers.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland he said that the big crowd was “scaring the life” out of him.
However, he said that when he got into the song he he “didn’t feel a little bit nervous.”

The young singer said he met the Irish team the day before the match on their captain’s runout at the Aviva Stadium.
He said Peter O’Mahony and Bundee Aki were his favourite players. He had previously met them at the Late Late Toy Show and loved seeing them again.
Speaking on the same programme, Stevie’s dad Seamus said he was very proud.
“I thought: ‘this kid’s got it all’. “He was amazing. He nailed it, didn’t he?” the Irish boss added.
