Q&A with The Electoral Commission

You have been asking plenty of questions about the upcoming referendums on family and care on our social media platforms.

Everything from ‘what do I need to vote?’, to ‘where is my information booklet?’.

There will be two questions put to the people on 8 March.

One is on care in the home, the other is on the definition of family.

The Electoral Commission was established last year to oversee elections and referendums in Ireland.

It has described the referendums as ‘complex’.

“We are a statutory body with the power and they duty to explain this to you in an objective, impartial and non-political way,” explains Ms Justice Marie Baker, Chair of The Electoral Commission.

Watch our video with the Chair of The Electoral Commission where she answers the most common questions on the upcoming referendums.
