Pit bull terrier shot after two people injured in Cork



A pit bull terrier has been shot and killed by armed gardaí in Cork after becoming aggressive in an incident yesterday evening.

The incident happened at Connolly Road, Ballyphehane in the city shortly after 5pm.

Gardaí were called to the scene after the dog injured a woman in the back yard of the woman’s home.

The woman was bitten in the arm and leg.

Another family member was also bitten after he tried to restrain the dog.

He was bitten in the arm.

Local gardaí, a dog warden and a vet were called and gardaí requested support from the Garda Armed Support unit.

Following consultations with the dog’s owner and the vet, the dog was shot by a member of the Armed Support Unit and euthanised by the vet.

The two people who were injured were taken to Cork University Hospital, where they received treatment for soft tissue injuries.
