A number of accommodation centres for Ukrainian refugees are to close, the Department of Integration has confirmed.
In a statement, the Department said it is currently seeking to “consolidate and rationalise” the Beneficiary of Temporary Protection (BOTP) accommodation portfolio.
Over the next few months a “significant number of contracts” will end, a spokesperson said.
“The Department will try to schedule moves for the summer months to minimise disruption to the school year if possible.
“BOTPs are encouraged to make their own independent arrangements for accommodation using the options available to them such as pledged or Offer a Home properties, or to rent privately using supports such as rent supplement if eligible.”
Since 14 March, Ukrainians who have arrived in Ireland are provided with accommodation for 90 days from the day of their arrival.
The Department of Integration added that people are also exiting State accommodation centres every day, making their own independent arrangements.
A spokesperson for the Department said: “This means that there are vacancies created in the existing accommodation and the consolidation will result in a more sustainable portfolio.
“The Department is making decisions to end commercial contracts, in accordance with contractual terms and conditions agreed with providers, on the basis of financial, administrative or other accommodation management reasons.”
They added that the accommodation provided to Ukrainian who request it is short-term and that moves are often necessary.
