Murder investigation launched following Cobh assault



A murder investigation is under way following a fatal assault in Co Cork.

33-year-old Ian Baitson, a father-of-two, died in hospital yesterday after he was attacked with a sword in the forecourt of a supermarket in Cobh last Friday.

Mr Baitson, who was a chef, was attacked in the Eurospar car park on the Newtown Road just before 9pm.

He received a leg wound and lost a significant amount of blood in the attack.

Gardaí say they have received preliminary results from a post-mortem examination and they have launched a murder inquiry.

They are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Gardaí also want to hear from anyone who may have camera footage from the Newtown Road area between 8.45pm and 9.15pm last Friday.
