Man rescues dog from Bolivian river

A dog trapped in the storm waters of western Bolivia’s Orkojahuira River was rescued by a construction worker hung from a crane yesterday.

The dog was rescued by construction workers who were creating berms to prevent the water from undermining the inhabited river banks.

The Orkojahuira River is one of several rivers in the country’s administrative capital La Paz that have flooded due to a recent spell of heavy rains impacting the city.

Heavy rains have triggered several landslides in western Bolivia over the past week, resulting in casualties, and leaving dozens homeless, local media reported.

According to Bolivia’s National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology, the accumulated rainfall this month reached 140.4 millimetres, exceeding the normal accumulated rainfall of 83.8 litres per square metres.
