Man in his 20s dies in Co Cork road crash



A man in his 20s has died in a road collision in Co Cork, in the early hours of this morning.

The crash occurred in Rathanker, near Passage West, at around 2.30am.

The man who died was the driver of the car and no other vehicles were involved.

Two passengers in the car were taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road in Rathanker remains closed and local diversions are in place.

The man’s death brings to 35 the number of people who have died on Irish roads since the beginning of the year.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling on the L2474 between Rochestown and Monkstown, between 2am and 2.45am, to contact Togher Garda Station on at 021 494 7120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
