Man due in court over Dublin city centre assault



A man in his 20s is due in court charged in connection with an assault that happened in the O’Connell Street area of Dublin at the weekend.

The victim, a man in his 40s, remains in hospital in a serious condition after the incident on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two men, in their 20s and 30s, were arrested in connection with the incident.

The man in his 20s has been charged and is due to appear at a court sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice.

The other man has been released from custody.

Gardaí have said investigations are ongoing and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They are also looking to speak to anyone who was in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room bar, between 12.40am and 1am and anyone who was on O’Connell Street Upper, near the Spar shop/Funland/tourism office, opposite the Spire, also between 12.40am and 1am.
